Interlibrary loans presently suspended
Due to the closure of the Orcas Island Library, and the closure of most libraries across the country, new interlibrary loan requests are suspended temporarily.
Delivery of requests made prior to our closure, and processed, will depend upon the libraries from which the items were requested. Upon arrival, these interlibrary loan items will be mailed to the requesting patron. The due date for books and audio books will be four (4) weeks from checkout, instead of the standard three (3) weeks; for DVDs the due date will be extended to three (3) weeks. You may return them once the Library reopens.
Should the Library remain closed beyond 31 March, 2020, we will address returns at that time.
If you placed a request and you do not receive it, the lending libraries that own the item may not be fulfilling interlibrary loan requests.
Thank you for your understanding.
Interlibrary Loan, or ILL, allows you to search for items in thousands of other libraries. Your request is processed and sent off to participating libraries.
PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST NEW RELEASES THROUGH INTERLIBARY LOAN. If you wish us to obtain a newly-published [within the last 9-12 months] book for you, please submit a suggestion for purchase by click on the above entitled tab.
Please keep the following parameters in mind when requesting items via Inter-library Loan.
Requests for Interlibrary Loan items will be limited to 3 requests per patron at any one time.
The following items are not available through Interlibrary Loan:
- Materials we already own.
- Materials published within the previous 9- to 12-month period.
- Computer or video games in any format.
- Periodicals (entire issues) - Libraries will not lend an entire issue of a magazine, but may provide photocopies of individual articles instead.
If your request falls within one or more of the above categories, please make a purchase suggestion. If it is a book we already own, please reserve it through the library catalog.
If you need to keep your item beyond its return date, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Librarian at least three days before the item is due. However, some libraries do not renew interlibrary loans. Many libraries are instituting overdue fines for interlibrary loan items.
