Volunteer @ the Library

Join over 80 of your friends and neighbors and volunteer at the Orcas Island Library. Volunteer staff are the backbone of the Library from checking in books, computer downloading of new books, covering new materials, to checking out books to patrons.

There is always a need for additional volunteer staffyes, we need YOU! Volunteer positions include: Front Desk (checking in and out materials, shelving), Shelf Maintenance, Computer Processing, Book Covering, Special Projects, Gardening, Displays, and Adult and Childrens Program Support.

Library volunteers work a two or three hour shift once a week, with substitutes always available for vacations and trips off-island. Some positions allow for every other week schedules. Volunteers need to enjoy working with people of all ages and not be afraid of computers. Gentle and effective training is provided on library computers for all volunteers. New volunteer training is scheduled as people are recruited and is personalized for each person and position.
