Orcas Island Public Library

Library Mission Summary:
The Orcas Island Public Library serves and enriches the community by maintaining a strong core collection of books, other materials, online resources, and services; by supporting learners of all ages across a variety of formats and interests; and by providing a meeting place and a forum for discussion.
The Library's mission, goals, and actions will be guided by its Core Service Values, as approved and updated by the Library Board.
Library Goals and Objectives:
- Community members will encounter a wealth of books and other materials. Fiction and non-fiction holdings will include over half the items in recommended reading lists.
- User satisfaction with the collection will exceed 80%. Requested purchases and interlibrary loans will respond to at least 80% of user needs.
- Learners of all ages will find and be able to use effectively the resources and services they need to succeed.
- The Library will communicate with other organizations to determine their library-related needs, in order to strengthen community services and partnerships.
- The Library's Technology Plan will include scheduled environmental scans, evaluation of online resource needs and usage, and strategic implementation of appropriate information technologies.
- Community members will be able to take classes in the Library to ensure that they are able to make full use of the Library's range of materials and formats.
- Community members will find a welcoming place to meet and to discuss issues of interest to them.
- The Library building will feel welcoming and conducive to informal meetings to at least 80% of Library users.
- Online directories, meetings, and discussion forums will show use by 10% of the community annually.
- The Library will facilitate community-led sessions about issues important to the community.
